Alec’s birthday beach weekend

Joanie, Oskar and the kids invited us to celebrate “Uncle Ally’s” 42nd birthday at the family’s beach house. The kids pulled together a (sorta) surprise Scooby-Doo themed birthday party, complete with homemade cupcakes and frosting, balloons and Scooby masks, plates and cups. Even the chicken dance made the list!

Alec and I decided to take advantage of what might be the last glorious day of summer-like weather by hiking up to the Pittock Mansion this morning. We were treated to that crispness in the air that zings your skin and flushes your cheeks the perfect pink. We couldn’t have asked for better morning sun. [...]

Rockin’ Relay

Adina, Doug, Kevin and Alec braved a late summer downpour and competed in the Rockin’ Relay this morning. Live bands, an urban course starting & finishing at the Amnesia Brewery, good post-race pints of IPA and tasty BBQ’d brats made for a full day with good friends.

Calories in, calories out

As Alec burned some major calories running the Hood to Coast relay, the Anoushiravani gals and I gathered by the fire to consume some major calories from A Piece of Cake. Love me some girl talk and sweet tooth satisfaction by an evening fire!

Reliving the preteen years with the Pretenders

We exchanged small gifts last night (gorgeous flowers for me and a new book for Alec), met for lunch downtown by the fountain today [...]

Alec climbs his first turbine

It was just another day at the office for Alec and some of his coworkers! Vestas turbines are humongous: 3 football fields tall with blades the length of an 18-wheeler. No wonder they wear steel-toe boots, hard hats, safety goggles and harnesses with massive carabiners. Safety first, safety last, safety always. Alec said the experience [...]

Alone again

Alec is off traveling again, this time to Rochester, NY for Vestas business. He’s the new travel moth in our family and it feels okay to let him have some of the work travel fun for a while While he’s off in New York, my plan is to kick this whooping cough that [...]

Alaska 2009

Alec and the guys returned last night sporting scratchy beards and ripe outdoor boy smell. It sounds like everyone had a great time together and enjoyed the opportunity to be manly men in the Great White North. There are lots of tales of  4-hour ferry trips, scenic plane rides, dancing hippies, hiking, craft beer connoiseurs [...]

Boys’ trip to Alaska

Alec is leaving this morning for a long-planned boys’ trip to the Great White North. Alec and seven of his friends will seaplane, kayak, hike and camp their way through Juneau and then off to Haines via ferry for the 17th Annual Great Alaskan Craftbeer and Homebrew Festival. I’m so excited for him and all the guys [...]
