Our flight to Rome leaves bright and early tomorrow morning! This trip came about so quickly that I still haven’t wrapped my head around the idea of nine days abroad and away from the rat race.
We have a lovely itinerary planned: 2 days in Florence, 4 days in Rome and 3 days in Tuscany. Our [...]

A little perspective

Almost six years ago Alec’s friend was tragically killed, leaving a young wife, a toddler and a newborn baby behind. Alec received an email yesterday from his friend’s wife with a very touching story. Apparently their little boy’s teacher called to say that the class had been asked to write a story. Usually her little guy’s [...]

Toys For Kids weekend at the beach

This weekend marked the 2008 Toys for Kids board meeting and beach retreat. Although the giving is going to take a little different shape going forward, the goal of servicing the many needy agencies in Oregon is still the same. Alec, the pups and I shared a great house with Rob and Meg this year. [...]

I have an intense desire to whittle down my rolodex of favorite things and simplify my life. I am overwhelmed by options. I would like to buy only one kind of soap for the rest of my life. That would be MY brand of soap and I would never willingly deviate. I want my “can’t [...]
Travel moths

Like moths to a flame, Alec and I are looking more and more like travel addicts this fall and winter. Our passports will be seeing lots of action; Alec and I have trips to Rome, Florence, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Holland and Denmark planned. Then there’s Pacific City, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh and my weekly trips to [...]

We found the album! After dinner we swung by Everyday Music on Sandy and grabbed the new Amos Lee record. I’ve been listening upstairs from the bathtub while Alec has been reading downstairs near the hi-fi. I’m happy to report it was well worth the hunt.
Happy birthday Alec!

The birthday boy’s wish list this year was short and sweet: a new pair of jeans, Amos Lee’s new release on vinyl and a stainless steel parmesan cheese grater. Sadly, we were 0 for 3 today while strolling NW 23rd. Instead, Alec received a brisk, sunny fall day, homemade breakfast and some quality time with [...]

Money stresses me out. Especially right now and for darn good reason; it’s a scary time for everyone. Alec and I met with Adina, our friend and financial advisor, last night. We realize that its time to get really aggressive with saving and firm up our overall budget. I started to get all itchy and [...]
